The extremely popular Basic Radiation Protection Technology Fifth Edition text is the basic tool around which our comprehensive self-study course is built. There are 15 main chapters in the 866-page text, divided into three major units:
* Theory
* Instrumentation
* Operations
The text is generously illustrated with over 600 photographs and drawings, and each chapter concludes with a "problem set" and "reading list." The 2006 fifth edition features new material on nuclear terrorism scenarios, emergency operations and special Homeland Security instruments. Also added or expanded are topics on radioprotectants, the Large Hadron Collider, biological methods of remediation, and FRMAC.
NRRPT® News reported that successful exam candidates
overwhelmingly cited Dr. Gollnick's Basic Radiation Protection
Technology book as their main study guide in preparing for the exam. A
review of an earlier edition by a nuclear power station technician
trainer states, "It is nice to see a book designed for the average
radiation protection technician that presents the material in an

The text is now available as both a printed soft cover book and
electronically as a CD-ROM disk. The CD is compatible with both the PC

Dr. Gollnick's series of 8 audio CDs performs three functions.
They provide:
1) Continuity between the "lessons" and "units"
2) Additional background information to enrich the lesson
3) A summary of highlights from the corresponding chapter in the text
Approximately thirty-minutes of audio lecture are included for the
course introduction and each of the 15 lessons. Students can listen to
the CDs at home or while commuting, making their travel time more
productive.

The last Course component containes the final examination. After completing the exam, it is submitted to Pacific Radiation Corporation for grading. If you pass, you will be issued a Certificate of Completion. The package also contains a course evaluation, so that we can continue to make improvements in our study materials.
